Paul Metselaar, Chairman and CEO
Founded the company in 1984 expanding on a family travel business. An accomplished professional and thought leader, Mr. Metselaar’s vision of providing specialized service to law firms and other professional organizations quickly established him as a pioneer in the travel management industry. Steadfast in this niche servicing approach, he built Ovation Travel Group, the parent company of Lawyers Travel, into one of the top 7 corporate travel management companies in the U.S., serving more than 700 of the world’s leading law firms and organizations and named one of the Inc.5000 fastest-growing private companies in America in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Mr. Metselaar holds a BA from Cornell University and a JD from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He is a member of multiple travel industry associations as well as a board member of the Metro New York Chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), the largest YPO chapter in the world.
Sunil Mahtani, Executive Vice President
Joined Lawyers Travel in 1989 and has held several integral positions within the company including Corporate Controller, Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and today Executive Vice President. Mr. Mahtani is responsible for the company's finances, strategic planning, vendor relations, mergers and acquisitions and airline negotiations. He oversees Lawyers Travel’s financial structures and strategic planning ensuring strict financial compliance, policies and procedures. An over 30-year veteran finance professional, prior to attending university, Mr. Mahtani was responsible for business development at an export corporation in Brazil. He holds a Bachelors degree in Commerce from Calcutta University, India and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from Boston University. He is a member of Continental Airlines' Agency Advisory Board and a frequent participant at various industry panels and round-table discussions.
Michael Steiner, Executive Vice President
Joined Lawyers Travel as Executive Vice President in 2003. Mr. Steiner has been responsible for growing Lawyers Travel’s operations by over 100%, making Lawyers Travel one of the fasting growing travel management companies in the industry. Mr. Steiner is responsible for the organization's new business development, strategic growth efforts, marketing, technology and supplier relations. He earned a BA in Economics from Rutgers University. With over 25 years travel and technology industry experience at the executive level (formerly in senior roles with KDS International, Gorp.com and Direct Travel), Mr. Steiner is an active member and speaker of the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), former board member of RADIUS and a frequent speaker and writer on the topics of travel management, corporate social responsibility, green travel and online/mobile travel applications. Mr. Steiner is a Board Member of the ACTE Steering Committee and an Advisory Board Member of Executive Travel Magazine.
Elie Gordis, Executive Vice President and General Counsel
Joined Lawyers Travel in 2001. Mr. Gordis is responsible for overseeing Lawyers Travel’s legal affairs, operations, client solutions and human resources. He began his career as a corporate lawyer at Skadden Arps in New York where he specialized in securities work and mergers and acquisitions. In 1995, after seven years at the firm, Mr. Gordis left Skadden to co-found Strategic Legal Resources ("SLR"), a pioneer in the then emerging field of legal staffing. Under his direction, SLR rapidly grew to become an industry leader providing temporary lawyers to businesses and law firms nationwide. SLR was sold in 1998 to a public company and Mr. Gordis stayed on as President for another 18 months overseeing the transition. After leaving SLR, Mr. Gordis co-founded the Alta Fund, a private equity and management consulting firm focused on providing strategic consulting and seed capital to early stage companies, primarily in the service sector. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia and a JD from Columbia Law School.
Isabel Torres, Senior Vice President, Operations
Joined Lawyers Travel in 1991 and has held several key management positions within the company leading to her current role as Senior Vice President of Operations. Ms. Torres oversees the daily management of Lawyers Travel’s internal operations to deliver the highest level of client service and enterprise excellence. Ms. Torres has developed and executed critical business strategies that have consistently enabled Lawyers Travel to achieve sustained organizational growth while maintaining best-in-industry service deliverables. She ensures effective and efficient implementation of new business and serves as a liaison between operations and account management.
Thomas Gehrke, Chief Information Officer
Joined Lawyers Travel as CIO in 2006. Mr. Gehrke is responsible for directing Lawyers Travel’s overall technology strategy, implementing creative, cutting-edge solutions in a diverse array of environments. He is a senior technology professional with more than 20 years information technology experience. Prior to joining Lawyers Travel, Mr. Gehrke served as CIO for one of the premier boutique financial services firms, The Daley-Hodkin Group, for 12 years. He guided the development of new technologies that have defined the industry standard for asset valuation, research and analysis. Mr. Gehrke attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and The University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
