MEXICANA DROPS MORE FLIGHTS
(source: Wall Street Journal)

The main unit of Mexicana on Monday said that it was cutting flights "to a minimum" amid falling sales and cash reserves following last week's bankruptcy filing.

Compania Mexicana de Aviacion also said its problems had spread to regional and low-cost units, MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink, which did not file for creditor protection but are suffering "serious repercussions" on sales.

Mexicana said it was suspending flights starting Monday to 13 destinations, including long-haul services from Mexico City to Madrid, London, Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo. Operations to Chicago, Montreal and San Antonio are also being dropped.

The company dropped some U.S. flights last week having previously flown to 41 destinations in 14 countries, including 11 in Mexico. Three of its 64 jets have been seized by aircraft lessors.

"Mexicana Airlines will be forced to cancel certain flights over coming days to optimize available resources and ensure that priority is given to homebound passengers," the company said in a statement.

The largest Mexican airline by revenue filed for bankruptcy protection in the U.S. and Mexico on Aug. 2 and stopped ticket sales two days later because it was unable to post collateral to a central booking system.

ZIP THROUGH PASSPORT CONTROL & CUSTOMS WITH GLOBAL ENTRY

(source: Delta Airlines)

Global Entry is a program developed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to expedite entry into the U.S. for low-risk, pre-screened international travelers. Upon arriving in the United States, members proceed directly to the automated Global Entry kiosk – bypassing passport control lines and paper customs declarations.

Global Entry is now available at most major U.S. airports, including:
• Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL)
• Boston-Logan International Airport (BOS)
• Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
• Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW)
• Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)
• Ft. Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
• Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
• Honolulu International Airport (HNL)
• New York-John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
• Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS)
• Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
• Miami International Airport (MIA)
• Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
• Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
• San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
• San Juan-Luis Múñoz Marin International Airport (SJU)
• Orlando-Sanford International Airport (SFB)
• Seattle-Tacoma International Airport-SeaTac (SEA)
• Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD)

U. S. citizens and permanent residents at least 14 years of age are eligible to participate in the program. A non-refundable application fee of $100 per applicant will be charged at the time of application. If approved, membership is valid for five years. To apply:
•Complete an application online and pay the non-refundable application fee
•If conditionally approved after review, U.S. Customs and Border Protection will follow up to schedule an interview at an in-airport enrollment center.
•Participate in the in-person interview during which a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer will review your application and verify identification documents and eligibility.
•If approved, the officer will take your photo, obtain fingerprint information, and introduce you to the program.

Then, you're all set to proceed directly to the Global Entry kiosk when you arrive back in the U.S. after your next trip abroad. For more information, visit www.globalentry.gov.

ONLY THREE LONG U.S. TARMAC DELAYS IN JUNE

(source: Business Travel News)

Major domestic airlines in June reported only three tarmac delays that exceeded three hours, compared with the 268 flights that experienced such delays in the same period last year, the U.S. Department of Transportation reported on Tuesday. This is the second month of data collected in the wake of a new federally mandated time limit on such delays.

DOT reported that the three flights experiencing long tarmac delays in June "involved three United Airlines flights departing Chicago's O'Hare airport on June 18, a day in which the Chicago area experienced a severe thunderstorm," DOT said. "None of the tarmac delays exceeded the three-hour limit by more than five minutes."

The number of incidents in June was slightly lower than the five three-hour-plus tarmac delays reported in May.

Despite claims that the new tarmac delay rules would spur a greater rate of cancellations when airlines near the three-hour mark and face heavy fines for exceeding it, DOT reported that carriers canceled 1.5 percent of flights in June—"equal to the 1.5 percent cancellation rate of June 2009."

SECURE FLIGHT PASSENGER DATA DEADLINE APPROACHING

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that after November 1, 2010, air passenger reservations without full Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) will be rejected by Secure Flight and will not be processed. This policy will apply to all passenger records regardless of source, aircraft operator, or air carrier.

Effective September 15, 2010, select airlines will prohibit ticket issuance if the passenger's full name, date of birth and gender are not present in the reservation.

To facilitate the collection of the SFPD, The Lawyers' Travel Service has created a secure, encrypted web form which travelers can use to input this information. When the information is submitted, the traveler profile will be updated.

If you have not already done so, please click on the URL directly below to complete the collection process: https://secureflight.lawyerstravel.com
